Level 3 First Aid at Work

The Level 3 course replaces the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved First Aid at Work course, in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Once qualified, holders of this First Aid at Work certificate can be used as First Aiders in the workplace in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. This course can be adapted to suit a particular audience. The First Aid at Work course is run over three days and includes both theory and practical sessions.

Assessment of the First Aid at Work Course:
Students are continuously assessed on their practical skills throughout the 3 days but will take a final theory paper on the last afternoon.  Upon successful completion certification is valid for three years.

Level 3 First Aid at Work  – Requalification

This is a refresher course for current First Aiders who hold a valid First Aid at Work certificate. Evidence of this certificate will be required on commencement.

A Requalification course can be taken up to 3 months before and within 28 days after the current certificate expires. The new certificate will be dated from the expiry date. (See new legislation)

The course duration is 2 days and a certificate of competence lasting three years and meeting HSE requirements will be awarded on successful completion of the course

 Emergency First Aid at Work

Overview
The EFAW is appropriate for nominated emergency first aiders, or anyone requiring a comprehensive one day first aid course. This course can be adapted to suit a particular audience and is ideal for lower risk businesses, in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations. The course is run over one day and includes both theory and practical sessions, in a relaxed atmosphere, designed to boost a candidate’s confidence. The Emergency First Aid at Work course replaced the First Aid Appointed Person course in October 2009.

Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid for Early Years –

  This course complies with OFSTED National Standards relating to First Aid for people working with Children and Infants and is in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

We are pleased to offer the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid accredited qualification. The course provides theoretical and practical training in First Aid techniques that are specific to infants aged 0 to 1, and children aged from 1 year old to the onset of puberty. Candidates will become familiar with the role of the paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react appropriately to an emergency situation including being able to provide first aid for a child and an infant who;

  • is unresponsive
  • has an airway obstruction
  • is suffering from shock
  • is wounded and bleeding
  • has a fracture or dislocation
  • has a head, neck or back injury
  • has a condition effecting the eyes, ears or nose
  • has a chronic medical condition or sudden illness
  • is experiencing the effects of extreme heat and/or cold
  • has been poisoned
  • has been bitten or stung
  • has sustained an electric shock

The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid consists of 2 units and is to be provided over a period of 2 days with a minimum contact time of 6 hours per unit. Training Centres can offer a 1 day course covering Unit 1 of the qualification. Candidates successfully completing only the 1 day course will gain a Certificate in Emergency Paediatric First Aid.

For the purposes of Registered Childcare provision and Early Years childcare within England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the Candidate must successfully complete the full 2 day Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid.

The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage is a document published by The Department for Children, Schools and Families and applies to Early Years childcare within England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Statutory Framework states that ‘at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises at all times when children are present. There must be at least one person on outings who has a current paediatric first aid certificate.’ The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid is recognised as a qualification that fulfils this need.

Assessment

Certification is dependent on successful continuous assessment, there is no final examination. Those delegates who complete the course, and are deemed to have reached the required standard, are awarded a certificate that is valid for three years.

Paediatric First Aid Level 3 – Blended Learning

Limited time to spend away from work or home?

This course covers the full 12 hour Paediatric Certificate, it is recognised by Ofsted and DfE as suitable for anyone working as a child care practitioner and requires the Level 3 Paediatric First Aid in Early Years qualification.

You will undertake 6 hours on line learning which can be done in your own time, at home, during work breaks, on your smart phone, tablet or computer.

On completion of the on line programme you will attend a 6 hour tutor lead session where you will consolidate your learning and formalise your practical skills.

On successful completion of both elements you will receive your Paediatric First Aid in Early Years certificate

Emergency Paediatric First Aid  (one day)

Outline

This basic paediatric first aid course is suitable for Nannies wishing to join the Voluntary part of the Ofsted Childcare Register (OCR). It is also suitable for Au Pairs, Babysitters, Parents and anybody who cares for children and needs a basic paediatric first aid course.

Delivered by paediatric specialists it includes both theory and practical sessions. This one day paediatric first aid (6 hour) course is delivered at your venue and can be run at the weekend by arrangement.

The required syllabus covers such topics as:

  • Choking – Child and Baby
  • Resuscitation (CPR) – Child and Baby
  • Anaphylaxis

First Aid Annual Half Day Referesher

In line with the revised First Aid Guidance issued on 1st October 2009* we are able to offer a half-day annual refresher course that is suitable for those staff who have completed either the three-day First Aid at Work or the one-day Emergency First Aid at Work courses. This is an ideal course to help keep your first aiders updated; it also provides an opportunity for them to ask questions to their instructor and peers.

‘IN HOUSE’ COURSES ONLY

FIRST AID FOR SCHOOLS

This 6 hour course covers emergency situations common in the school environment and is therefore ideal for teachers and other school support staff, where they will learn about first aid procedures pertinent to a school environment.

The syllabus includes:-

  • Treatment of unconscious casualty.
  • Resuscitation – as appropriate for age group
  • Control of bleeding
  • Incident management
  • Burns and scalds
  • Miscellaneous conditions relevant to YOUR school

Assessment:

Continuous assessment by trainer and a certificate, valid for 3 years, is issued on successful completion

ANAPHYLAXIS FIRST AID AND USE OF AUTO INJECTOR (epipen)

We offer anaphylaxis first aid training run ‘on site’ at your premises or at a local venue of your choice.

Overview:
We are able to offer a half-day anaphylaxis first aid training course for anyone who requires training in how and when to use an auto injector in the treatment of anaphylaxis. Circa 40% of children in the UK suffer with allergies. Therefore the ability to understand allergic conditions and deal with symptoms is now an essential part of childcare. It is an ideal course for workplace first aiders to attend who have to deal with those prone to anaphylaxis. The course deals with prevention, recognition and treatment of severe allergic reactions including the use of auto-injectors and CPR.

The syllabus includes:-

  • Allergic reaction
  • Communication and casualty care
  • Unconscious casualty
  • Auto-injector
  • Resuscitation
  • Primary Survey

Assessment:
The tutor throughout the course will continually asses delegates. Upon Successful completion of the course the delegate will be awarded a certificate for Anaphylaxis First Aid

Emergency First Aid Awareness

We are able to offer a half-day emergency first aid awareness course to meet your organisations individual first aid requirements and adjust the course to meet your needs. The course is designed to ensure that your staff are able to deal with emergencies until such time that the emergency service has arrived. It is also an ideal course to help keep your first aiders updated and also provides an opportunity for them to ask questions to their instructor and peers.

Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Training

Overview
We are able to offer a half-day course in Automated External Defibrillation (AED) training which conforms to the current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines. This device can be used to administer measured electric shocks during CPR to people in cardiac arrest and is the best way of increasing the chance of survival. The chances of successful defibrillation decline at a rate of 7-10% with each minute. Basic life support may help to sustain a shockable rhythm but is not a definitive treatment. We are also able to offer advice in purchasing the correct equipment for your organisation.

The syllabus includes:

  • Recognition and treatment of conscious/unconscious heart attack
  • Demonstrate CPR and discuss the rationale for CPR
  • The conditions where AED can be used and what AED does
  • Be able to apply the pad in the correct position on a dummy and connect them to a machine
  • Be able to describe the additional items that may be need to apply pads on people
  • Demonstrate the correct process for CPR with and AED attached in various scenarios on the machine

Assessment:
Their tutor throughout the automated external defibrillation (AED) training course will continually asses delegates. Upon Successful completion of the course the delegate will be awarded a certificate for Automated External Defibrillation.

SPORTS FIRST AID

This 6 hour course will give you all the necessary first aid skills to deal with a whole range of sporting injuries.  It is ideal for anyone involved in sporting activities – from referees and coaches to players where they will learn how to deal with the type of injuries and medical emergencies that can happen during sporting activities.
